Bengali New year wishes 2021!  As per the Bengali calendar, 1427 ends on 14th of April 2021 and it’s 1428 on 15th April 2021, Thursday.  The Bengali new year month is called Boishak. So, the first day of the year is also known as Poila Boishak in Bengali. It is celebrated widely in West Bengal, Assam and adjoining states.

How do you say Happy New Year in Bengali?
It’s said as “Shubho Nobo Borsho!”. That means Wishing you happy Poila Boisakh! Happy New Year to all my Bengali friends.

Who invented Bengali New Year?
It is said that once during Mughal rule in India,  Akbar the great asked the royal astronomer Fathullah Shirazi to create a new calendar. This was proposed to be done combining the solar Hindu calendar already in use and the Lunar Islamic calendar. And this was known as Fasholi shan (harvest calendar). According to some historians, this started the Bengali calendar.
